Island Hoppin'

Friday, October 18th

As you may have read in our previous post, we started our journey to Krabi on a "tuk tuk" ride to our minivan site. Dr. Sutthiporn arranged our rides for us which was so helpful. We arrived at the van site, hopped in our ride, and headed out about 2:15pm for Krabi. The van had one 20min stop for the restroom, snacks, etc. They took us directly to our hotel and we ended up there about 7:15pm after the other passengers were dropped off. After getting settled in the hotel room, we decided to walk down the street for some dinner and ended up at a family thai restaurant. We ordered two types of pad thai, and called it a night after that. Tomorrow was our big boat tour, so we needed to rest up! :)

Saturday, October 19th

The day came quickly, and we ended up at the gym before our shuttle arrived at 8:00am for the boat tour. Many hotels around Ao Nang will have free shuttles from the hotel to the boat tours and back when finished. Our shuttle dropped us off around 8:40am and we ended up leaving around 9:30am on the boat. We had about 45 people with us on the same tour, which was a boat ride to seven different islands, ending up at the most famous one, Phi Phi Island. None of these islands disappointed, and were each beautiful and unique in their own way. We saw beautiful mountains, gorgeous waters, and monkeys swinging around. The tour includes snorkeling gear, water, thai buffet lunch, fresh fruit, and entertainment along the way to each island. This was one of our favorite adventures so far, and is a cheap trip from Hat Yai as well. We tried to take as many pictures as we could, but they do not do this place justice. Every droplet of water was clear blue, and everyone around was so nice. Visiting Krabi and doing a boat tour is a MUST when visiting Thailand. They dropped us back off at our hotel around 4:15pm, and we ended up at the hotel pool for a little to get the salt water off, relax, and talk about our day. We headed back up to the room to get ready for the evening. We ended up eating at the same restaurant as the night before, ordered cashew chicken this time, and headed to this place called Center Point for the evening for some live music.

Sunday, October 20th

We started the morning around 10:00am. This sleep in was amazing, and much needed. We had breakfast at the hotel, and caught our tuk tuk to the bus station at 11:30am. Everyone at the resort was so helpful in finding our bus station, and getting us to the right place. Our bus left at 1:00pm, and we ended up back in Hat Yai around 6:00pm that evening. Taxis and tuk tuks are everywhere when arriving in Hat Yai, so it was easy to grab another tuk tuk to our apartment. The Limb restaurant was calling our name as soon as we got back. Megan was in the mood for some American food (sandwich and fries), and Cynthia ordered a hot yellow curry. The night ended shortly after, as we prepared for the week coming up. It was going to be our third week, and last week in internal medicine.
